Her mom died three years ago of cancer when she was nine. After visiting a ranch during summer vacation and befriending another 11 year old girl named CJ (Danielle Chuchran), the girl learns about illegal activities that might jeopardize the mustangs. Along the way she learns so much about the horses and makes a new friend CJ. She finds the black stallion a horse legend. She takes photographs of the horse but has to keep it a secret. CJ's mother, Maddie, helps protect the horses but now she can't do it alone.
